Gifts-for-Genealogists.com is a privately run website based in the UK by Ann Smith, a hobby genealogist for over twenty years.

I and my husband, Ken, have been interested in family history research since the birth of our two daughters. It has been fascinating to find out our family background. We seem to be a mixture of practical ancestors (miners and weavers, tailors, grocers and nurses) and those with a fondness for the unexpected and bold.

My mother's side of the family has roots in Ireland and had to flee from the hardships of the potato famine in the 19th century. Over time, branches of the family moved to the Lancashire, Yorkshire and Warwickshire, Wales, the United States and Australia. My parents met in the desert of North Africa during World War II.

Highlights of 2003 were incredible:

With our younger daughter we travelled halfway round the world for our elder daughter, Helen's Japanese wedding
Our younger daughter, Claire returned in September from a three year stay in the Channel Islands to be a bit closer to home (at least for the time being)
At Christmas we returned their wonderful hospitality when we welcomed our new Japanese family to our own home and showed them something of England

The site is being updated every so often in between our full time jobs and renovating a derelict house!

Breaking news - the house is now completed and our younger daughter has moved in. Our elder daughter's husband has been transferred with his company to London so for the first time in many years all our family members will be resident in England!
